High Quality Video on MultiMedia PCs

چکیده
Displaying broadcast video on a MultiMedia PC, implies the use of video format conversion (VFC) techniques, as computer displays and television receivers use quite distinct scanning rasters. VFC consists of spatial scaling, deinterlacing and picture rate conversion. Although scaling is rather straightforward, the other two tasks are far from trivial, and advanced motion compensated interpolation techniques are necessary to achieve a performance level that can compete with that of a standard TV. This paper discusses the options for picture rate conversion, and shows how even advanced motion compensated algorithms can run real time on a currently available programmable device.

Video servers are essential in Video-on-Demand and other multimedia applications. In this paper, we present our high-performance clustered CBR video server, Odyssey. Odyssey is a server connecting PCs with switched Ethernet. It provides efficient support for normal play and interactive browsing functions such as fast-forward and fast-backward. We designed a set of algorithms for scheduling, syn...
متن کاملMultimedia Communication in Wireless Networks with an Evaluation of Slot Aggregation in PACS
A novel application on the recently emerging Personal Communication Services (PCS) networks is the multimedia communication. We discuss the requirements for providing multimedia service over the PCS networks. Video coding, channel (slot) aggregation, bandwidth and quality of service aspects are identified to be of prime importance for multimedia communication. Next, slot aggregation and data-se...
